Resonance and vortex engines are new forms of „bionic“ combined heat and power machines that make use of two naturally occurring phenomena, namely „resonance“ and „vortex“ as operating principles.

Die Resonance engines are „acoustic Stirling engines“ in which expansion and compression take place in the form of acoustic waves. They offer the prospect of achieving high power densities (up to 1000 kW per litre of displacement) and can work at the highest possible levels of efficiency both in the low (80 – 200°C), medium (200 – 500°C) or high (500 – 1000°C) temperature ranges.

The new applications that they make possible are:

· the use of solar energy: solar water pumps,
   solar combined heat, power and refrigeration

· domestic services: domestic heating with
   electricity generation and air conditioning

· use of waste heat: a waste heat engine
   extracts usable energy from a waste heat source
   from 80°C upwards

· cryogenic technology: SUPRACOOL®-
   cryocoolers generate low temperatures from
   -80°C to -250°C for supraconductors,
   medical technology or biogas liquefaction

· automotive: hybrid units
   (electric current, heat and cooling) for electric cars;
   APUs (auxiliary power units) for electric current,
   heat and cooling to replace the alternator,
   auxiliary heater and air conditioning

Vortex engines are a special type of turbine that utilise closed vortices free from Magnus forces and therefore have minimum free energy („Beltrami flow“), as often observed in nature.








The new applications which they make possible are:


· use of solar energy: vertical wind power plants with no tower (artificial tornado)

· electricity generation: high-efficiency gas turbines (implosion engines)

· aviation: high-efficiency aircraft engines, new aircraft forms („flying saucers“)

The SUPERENGINE® Gesellschaft für Resonanz- und Wirbelmaschinen mbH, with its partners, is dedicated to developing, building and selling these machines for various areas of application.


The company was established by Karl Obermoser (thermodynamics, electrical engineering) and Eckhart Weber (physics, combustion technology), who have been engaged in basic research and the development of these machines since 1990. In several areas the work has now reached a stage which permits development for series production and merchandising.


The following pages provide a practical introduction to thermodynamics and attempt to make the new „bionic“ CHP machines more easily understood by means of clearly stated theoretical principles, experimental samples and prototypes. New information is published for the information of interested experts and to promote contact with further cooperating partners.
